Tropic of Cancer wasn't officially published in the United States until 1961, & the publication of it led to a series of obscenity trials that tested American laws on pornography. This title was first published in 1934 by Obelisk Press in Paris. Considering this title was initially banned in the USA, this appears to be a pirated/bootleg copy, illegally printed, & bound in plain dark blue printed wraps. The text merely begins at page 1, following a single leaf as ffep (with additional single blank endpaper leaf at rear). There is no quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson preceding text. No title page, no publication details, no date (circa 1961). The series is now out of print, and these facsimiles have become collectible in their own right. The First Edition Library published exact facsimiles of desirable first editions, down to the smallest details- cloth, paper, binding, and first edition points were identical to the originals. The clamshell case shows minor wear on the inside from opening and closing but still quite nice. The paper band stating that it must not be taken into the US or Great Britain is secured with tape, I don't know if it was original or not. Small spot at head of spine, very light wear on top edge of front cover, probably from going in and out of case. A perfect facsimile of the original softcover book published in 1934 by the Obelisk Press in Paris, including an introduction by Anais Nin. One of the 3 very scarce First Edition Library "Published in Paris " series of books that were originally banned in the US and UK.
